Sell anything online with no per transaction fees
If you sell anything online, PayKickstart is worth its weight in gold not because it accepts payments but rather how it enables sellers to extract the maximum value out of each customer at checkout.
This review of PayKickstart will look at the reason having a shopping cart app is necessary and how PayKickstart stands out from the competition in terms of features (like one click up-sell showed to the left).
And if you are looking to get the best deal on PayKickstart, I will let you know what to expect in the way of PayKickstart coupon codes or discounts.
Why do I need a shopping cart?
One simple reason: User Experience
Let me use a common example that a lot of online sellers settle for – PayPal. The logic goes as follows, “It's free and it allows me to accept payments online so what's not to love?”
Well, there are a few things to keep in mind regarding PayPal with the biggest issue listed first.
- PayPal has vague terms of service conditions that allows them to delete your account with all the money in it at any point
- Seller Protection doesn't cover digital goods
- Charge-backs incur a large $20 penalty
sellerdashboard is not user friendly and can make routine customer support requests cumbersome
- PayPal integration to third party apps can be clumsy and require a developer to code the function
- Paypal subscription fees management is a nightmare (beware in using it for recurring payments like membership sites)
For some people the risks above may seem fine but I would hazard a guess you are just starting out and testing the waters. If you are doing any reasonable amount of sales online paying $29 per month for an option like PayKickstart should be high on your agenda.
You get a dramatically better user experience for you as the seller and for your customers and you get access to a lot of marketing features that should increase the revenue per customer.
It's also interesting to note that PayKickstart is cheaper than the PayPal Payment Pro plan they offer at $30 per month plus their larger per transaction fees of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction in the USA.
So with that in mind let's look at PayKickstart.
What is PayKickstart
PayKickstart is an SAAS (software as a service) app for accepting payments online and increasing word-of-mouth sales. This last point is an important distinction because PayPal doesn't have an affiliate module built into it to allow rewards for people sharing your product with their friends. As the saying goes word of mouth is the best form of marketing but sometimes you have to give people a little extra push to tell their friends.
One of the standout features of PayKickstart is the thought put into its usability which gives your users the impression of reliability and trust which is so crucial online as you are about to process someone's credit card. In the real world there are so many trust factors we rely on when dealing with people and paying them but online things such as body language and chemistry are lacking, so one of the key factors is design and ease of use to increase conversions.
When you first sign-up to PayKickstart you can see this design focus and it makes PayKickstart a joy to use for you as the shop owner and for your clients. It's like a virtual handshake of trust between two business colleagues when you have quality software powering your online store.
You can see an example of what a PayKickstart checkout page looks like below.
The product being sold is Reevio (great tool for creating online videos)
Note: The price automatically calculated with the local currency (NZD) of where I am based. (Original price was $97 USD). Something you don't see on the above example is a coupon code field because this vendor did not set it up.
Who are the founders of PayKickstart
Mark Thompson is the founder of PayKickstart and brings a wealth of experience of the online marketing space. Before starting PayKickstart he was and still is a prolific digital entrepreneur best known for his work at Digital Kickstart that focus on training people how to promote their businesses online. If you have never visited Digital Kickstart, it is well worth a visit.
Matt Callen is cofounder and you most often see him when receiving emails from Digital Kickstart.
How to use PayKickstart
PayKickstart is intuitive to use and I can illustrate it best in the video below.
PayKickstart Key Features
- Sell anything (digital, services and physical goods
- 0% transaction fee
- Checkout Page Template library
- One click upsells
- Sales Reporting and charts
- Order bumps
- Exit Intent popups
- Payment integrations
- Email and membership integrations
- Fulfilment integrations
- Affiliate module
- Cart Recovery
- Address Auto complete
Note that some above features are available on certain plans only, such as the affiliate module which you get as part of the professional $99 per month plan.
Next I would like to compare PayKickstart with one of it's biggest rivals.
PayKickstart vs ThriveCart
- Full shopping cart app with affiliate and up-sells
- True one click up-sell with PayPal
- Integrated licensing system
- Drag and drop funnel builder
- Mobile App for tracking store and sales
- Full shopping cart app with affiliates and up-sells
- Apple Pay
- Automatic Digital Sales Tax Calculation
- 1-Click Bump Offers on checkout page
- One time payment option available during beta launch
- More control over ThriveCart features and layout
A few thoughts on the above
First, there may still be a chance to grab a lifetime license to ThriveCart here (click notify me on that page). This would represent the best value proposition where you pay $595 one time and get access to all the features forever. But technically ThriveCart is unavailable to the public during its BETA testing phase which is why I entered TBC under pricing.
Another thing to note is that the above features will constantly change especially for ThriveCart but there are standout features for each app.
For PayKickstart: It has a licensing system built in which it great for SAAS and app builders who need to keep track of people accessing their app who need to have a valid and current license to use it. PayKickstart also has a drag-and-drop funnel builder and interestingly is the only shopping cart amongst several popular ones available to have a mobile app. I am sure that is something we could all get used to with our phones ringing with a “You Made a Sale” notification.
For ThriveCart: They have Apple Pay built-in and automatic digital sales tax calculated based on user location which will be useful for my Europeans friends especially and complying with those new laws.
- Affordable plans starting at $29 per month
- Easy to use builder to create checkout and bump order pages
- Integrated licensing system
- Affiliate contest and leaderboard system
- Split pay options
- Email, Webinar and Membership integration
- No automatic sales tax calculation by location
- No Apple Pay option
Are there Up-sells?
No, they will not push you with upsells. After choosing one plan it immediately presents you with an easy to follow on-boarding process to set up your first store and products.
If you are on the Basic $29 per month plan however, you will see an up-sell to Professional when trying to add your 6th product or trying to access advanced features like the affiliate modules. The same is true on the Professional plan when trying to access the demographics, up-time monitoring, surveys and audience builder modules only available on Premium plan.
As already mentioned ThriveCart is a close competitor feature wise to PayKickStart and has a similar easy-to-use checkout process and layout function. There are other companies who PayKickstart has taken the time to build a comprehensive comparison chart which you can see here. Specifically, they compare themselves to:
The other company that springs to mind who had a launch recently and still have an excellent deal on is GrooveKart.
Do I recommend PayKickstart
At $29 per month for access to a premium shopping cart with sales maximising features, yes I recommend.
The only time I might not recommend going with a dedicated shopping cart is if you are selling less than $1000 per month or just starting your business and wanting to test the waters first using “free options” like PayPal. But as soon as you make your first few sales do yourself a favor and sign up because it makes a world of difference especially when compared to PayPal.

PayKickstart Coupon or Discount
At the moment there is no valid PayKickstart discounts or coupon codes but they have great deals that come up from time to time. The most recent promotion was for Black Friday and I would expect another one for 4th of July this year again.
